- Open for coverage. Test common vowels and consonants rather than guessing the answer on row one.
- Don’t reuse grey letters. A grey tile is not in the word, so every re-use wastes a guess.
- Move yellow letters. Right letter, wrong place. Try it in a new position next time.
- Think in endings. Patterns like -IGHT, -OUND or -ATCH shrink the list quickly.
- Split the G R _ _ _ family. Words like GRAIN, GRASS and GRAND share the same start. Once G and R are green, pick a guess that tests different next letters instead of repeating the most likely ones.
- Use a splitting guess. If several words fit, pick the guess that tells them apart, even if it can’t be the answer.

When does the new puzzle appear?
At midnight in your own time zone, so the release moment differs by region, but the word is the same worldwide.
What happens if I don’t solve it in six tries?
The game reveals the answer and your streak resets to zero. A new puzzle arrives the next day.
What is a good starting word?
Words that mix common vowels and consonants, like SLATE, CRANE or RAISE, remove the most possibilities in one guess.
Do Wordle answers repeat?
Historically no, but reports say the NYT began bringing back older answers in February 2026, starting with CIGAR, so a past solution can now return.
What if I type a word that isn’t valid?
The row shakes and the guess is rejected without costing you one of your six tries.
